A Zionist flag is a red flag in the eyes of some people. Apparently Zionist flags do things, such as triggering moral indignation.
There’s an account of a seeker, assured that the church she intended visiting was not the kind that displayed “political idolatry more loudly than the gospel.” Then, shocked, she noticed a Zionist flag. The church rented space from a Messianic Jewish-Christian organization. She wrote,
I wish I’d left then. I was shaking, horrified, physically revolting against the idea of worshiping under a symbol of hate. But I told myself it wasn’t their fault there was an emblem of genocide standing in the space they were using as a sanctuary.
Now I don’t want to get into the whole matter of my opinions regarding churches and flags and nationalism. That would take an entire essay or more. I’d like to make some observations about this person’s church seeking list as well. However, it’s the triggered response and the constant use of the word genocide that interests this post.
I want to ask why.
An alternate universe
Sarcasm warning: it seems there are people who live in a universe where those horrible European Jews turned up in 1948 to snatch the land away from the indigenous Palestinians. From then on newcomer Israel has continuously oppressed the Palestinians (Christian and Muslim) in all manner of ways…oh, and committed genocide in Gaza!
I occasionally reach out. I’ve pointed people to The Jewish Virtual Library. But, wait, it’s Jewish, isn’t it! Aren’t they the same people who (insert favorite conspiracy theory here) _____? One cannot trust them, right? In fact, shock and horror, Calvin Robinson recently accused Jews of inventing the bikini (on X). Is there no limit to their reprehensible nature?
I have noted that there are organizations which fact-check media claims about Israel and other Middle East conflicts. See, for example, CAMERA, and CAMERA UK. Then there’s The Middle East Forum. Note this ME Forum article addressing a Dearborn mayor on the genocide libel.
But I suppose these orgs are Israeli-psyops.
I’ve inquired as to why no angst about Oct 7 or regarding Christian genocide in other parts of the world. They’re not interested. Unfortunately, genocidal Israel (and subsequently Jews) lives rent free in their heads
You’ll occasionally get the sort of feedback asserting that the Palestinians are freedom fighters, grown desperate because of Israeli oppression. That’s why they invaded Israel on Oct 7, and raped and murdered women and men and children, and took hostages. That is, if it ever actually happened.
Remember that you can’t really trust the Jews.
The Inflamers

At about the same time that I read about the woman’s encounter with the Zionist flag church, I came across a recent article by Mark Durie addressing Kairos Palestine II and Naim Ateek. Here is an excerpt,

The document systematically silences Christian grievances against Muslim neighbors—discrimination, land expropriation, forced conversions, church desecrations, abductions, and murders—attributing all suffering to Israel. Sarcasm off
We can understand how someone, utterly convinced by the blood libels leveled against Israel, might react in certain ways. What we can’t understand is the single-minded obsession that prevents these people from objective investigation to discover whether these charges are true. We also can’t understand how the same people willfully ignore Christian devastation by Islamic ideology around the world and the horror of Oct 7.
Why is this so?
While one mustn’t automatically condone everything Israel does, there are grave consequences for lying about the conflict. The worst of these is a plague on this world – antisemitism.
