Alistair Begg and Romans 1

Alistair Begg and Romans 1—One Sunday morning Pastor Begg delivered another powerful sermon on Romans (1:24-27). Its impact had a flow-on effect on the Twitter-sphere. Snippets of his sermon were freely shared by Christians the following week; and rightly so!

At the 7 minute mark Pastor Begg gives an account of a talk he delivered at a college-university several years prior. He’d spoken on the godly place of sexual expression (exclusive to marriage between heterosexuals). A multitude of people promptly left the auditorium. After 12 years of speaking at that venue he was informed his services were no longer required.

We’ve arrived at a place in this world where homosexuality and lesbianism are a scared right to be celebrated. If you don’t agree, the State will enforce punitive consequences. Moreover, the departure from God’s Word is dividing many Christian denominations to the point that some have split and become pagan.

In time, the State will vet sermons within churches. We need to pray for all our courageous and faithful pastors and teachers. And thank God for them.

Scripture

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, Rom 1:18

Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity that their bodies might be dishonored among them; or they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen…

And for this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error. Rom 1:24-27

I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction.

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires; and will turn away their ears from the truth, and will turn aside to myths. 2 Tim 4:1-4

Evening Communion

I was there for communion in the evening. Pastor Begg switched from God’s wrath to His mercy. The invitation was sent out to repent and take refuge in Christ.

The LORD is good; a stronghold in the day of trouble, and He knows those who take refuge in Him. Nah 1:7

In a quavering Scottish lilt Begg sang three hymns with little accompaniment. I wish the session could be made available to watch again as I believe the Holy Spirit used him mightily that day.

The Sermon

Maranatha!
