Do not forget to keep Asia Bibi in your prayers. She is facing a death sentence on charges of blasphemy against Islam. We keep hearing from prominent national and religious leaders that Islam is a religion of peace and tolerance. This is demonstrably untrue. One wonders what motivates people to continue with this false narrative. What will it take before people wake up to the unpalatable truth? Are they willfully avoiding it?
We know that most Muslims in the West are peaceful. One may also point out that they are also a minority. Yet in countries like Egypt, Turkey, Pakistan and Iran – where Muslims are a majority – Christians are often persecuted. They are prohibited from openly sharing their faith. We pray and hope that Christian leaders who enjoy media recognition will begin to support these Christians.

According to a recent report, “Blasphemy Laws in Pakistan” published by the Center for Research and Security Studies, 247 blasphemy cases were registered between 1987 and 2012; 52 of the people involved were killed extra judicially.

According to section 295-C of Pakistan’s Penal Code:
“Whoever by words, either spoken or written, or by visible representation, or by any imputation, innuendo, or insinuation, directly or indirectly, defiles the sacred name of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) shall be punished with death, or imprisonment for life, and shall also be liable to a fine.”
