Christ the King is coming again. Are we overjoyed by that thought? Are we even ready for the second coming of Jesus Christ? Pastor Alistair Begg posed these questions during a recent Christmas sermon.
Pastor Begg noted that during Christmas many people are content to talk about “baby Jesus” and all that. Of course that happened two thousand years ago, and it’s a nice little Christmas story. But the Second Advent is quite another thing. Many aren’t so enthused about Christ’s second coming. That would change things!
Begg noted that people will scoff during the Last Days. They are scoffing now. Over the years I’ve talked to about Christ’s return – most have wanted to change the subject. It’s uncomfortable. They think you’re a nut. Some are skeptics; some are just happy to enjoy life as it is.
The world wants to rule itself and to be its own savior. It
doesn’t want a King ruling with a Rod of Iron (Rev 2:27; 19:15). Begg compared
this world with the evil days of Noah before the flood came. He noted that when
he was a six year old boy all of Glasgow was shocked over one murder. How far
have we come now!
Christ the King is coming again. Some will welcome Him with joy, others with
fear of judgment.
Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; Let the sea roar, and all its fullness; Let the field be joyful, and all that is in it. Then all the trees of the woods will rejoice before the LORD. For He is coming, for He is coming to judge the earth. He shall judge the world with righteousness and the peoples with His truth. Psalm 96:11-13
Are we ready for Christ’s coming?
Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure. 1 John 3:2-3
For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world– our faith. Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? 1 John 5:4-5
Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing. 2 Tim 4:8
COME, Lord and tarry not;
Bring the long-look’d-for day;
Oh why these years of waiting here,
These ages of delay?
Come, for thy saints still wait;
Daily ascends their sigh;
The Spirit and the bride say, come;
Dost Thou not hear the cry?
Come, and begin Thy reign
Of everlasting peace;
Come, take the kingdom to Thyself,
Great King of righteousness.

Let us all rejoice for Christ the King is coming again!
Maranatha!
