Faithful unto death: the following is taken from Spurgeon’s poem “Be Faithful unto death.” See Christ Our All.
Be Faithful Even Unto Death
Strange sounds amid a world of cares
Now fall upon my ear;
That calls me on through toils and snares
And bids me not to fear
Be faithful even unto death,
A crown for thee is made.
‘Tis thine, nor shall the slightest breath
Against they name be said.
In every scene, he steadfast still,
Take courage and be strong.
God be thy fear, his holy will
Be all they stay and song.
Let hills be hurled, let rocks be rent,
Let sun and moon grow dim.
When earth and hell their rage hath spent,
Thy soul shall dwell with him.
Let heav’n itself be in a blaze,
And time be past and gone.
Eternity shall hear our praise
Sound forth to God alone.
O make me Lord, through life and time,
And when I come to die,
Steadfast. Yea, let thy will be mine
On earth, and then on high.
Scripture
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, even though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; though its waters roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with its swelling. Psalm 46:1-3
Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Rom 8:37-39
“O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?”
The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord. 1 Cor 15:55-58
“And to the angel of the church in Smyrna write, `These things says the First and the Last, who was dead, and came to life: I know your works, tribulation, and poverty (but you are rich); and I know the blasphemy of those who say they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan. Do not fear any of those things which you are about to suffer. Indeed, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.” Rev 2:8-10
