The Preeminent Christ by Paul Washer: a book review. It is published by Reformation Heritage Books (Hardcover, 112 pages).
In the past I’ve used the term Desert Island Book. By this I meant that, if I had to spend a year (or so) on a desert island, other then the Bible I would pack a particular book in question. The desert island books have grown considerably since then. Now I have shelves of books from which I could happily select just one to take with me on an island.
The Preeminent Christ by Paul Washer is one of them. In fact, this book would be somewhere near the top of the list.
In the Foreword, John MacArthur writes,
The gospel of Jesus Christ declares the unfathomable glory of God in the salvation of sinners, and the gospel itself is therefore inestimably glorious. This is not a trivial assertion… Nothing in this vast universe of wonders is greater and more sublime than the glory of God. (Bold mine)
One of the many strengths of Washer is that he draws from the greats of the past. This one of the many reasons I also recommend Terry L. Johnson’s The Excellencies of God. Those who see most clearly what He has done for them, love Him all the more; and they are able to withstand life’s storms all the more.
An Apology
Washer apologizes for not being able to convey the glory, wonders and riches of Christ. He appeals to John Flavel. Flavel once had a taste of God’s love in a vision wherein he forgot even his beloved wife and children:
O fair sun, and fair moon, and fair stars, and fair flowers, and fair roses, and fair lilies, and fair creatures! But, oh, ten thousand, thousand times fairer Lord Jesus! ~ John Flavel

Scripture
For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. Romans 8:18
Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out! Romans 11:33
Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen. Ephesians 3:20-21
In conclusion “The Preeminent Christ” is Washer at his best. See other reviews HERE. This is the kind of book Christians ought to keep close and go to often—especially in times of trials and testing.
